Wow. The last time I wrote a post on this blog was over a year and a half ago. And that was the only post, too. Clearly I had some commitment issues. Though I think I am going to chock it up to my not having clear direction on the purpose of this blog yet. So there.
I had originally intended to write about my own tips and tricks for designing and coding for WordPress. But, as my role as Founder / CEO of Top Left Creative has morphed and changed, so have my responsibilities. I’ve noticed myself designing and coding less and less, and actually running a company more and more.
One thing I’ve also noticed is an extreme lack of transparency about how designers (or other creative professionals) make a real go of it and become successful business owners. Maybe they’re afraid to show any vulnerability. Maybe they’re afraid their clients will judge them if they dare to say they don’t know everything. Maybe they just think no one gives a shit.
Whatever it may be, I know as a designer turned business owner, I’d love to read more about other people struggling to make it in this big, big world of the entrepreneur. I often find myself second guessing decisions, wondering if I’m doing things the right way, the wrong way, any way at all.
So, I’m going to do it.
I’m going to write about it all. The successes, the failures, the disappointments. What’s working and what’s not. I’ll try and not to hold anything back-as much as my mental state can stand to share with strangers-except for client names (to protect the guilty). You’ll also hear a lot of my own uncertainty and inner ramblings come through. Hopefully you’ll find them endearing and not annoying.
So that’s it. Let me know if there’s something you’d like to know. I’ll try my best to answer any questions or offer any suggestions.
